How To Make One Hour Sourdough Bread, Crispy Crust And Airy Soft Inside


Quick Sourdough Bread recipe

One hour sourdough bread is totally possible. I don’t like being told I can’t do something. Well that was the case with quick sourdough bread.

I was looking all over the internet for a quick sourdough bread when I finally found one and started reading it. It took twelve hours, sorry but that is not my version of quick.

So I took matters into my own hands and came up with my one hour sourdough bread recipe ;p you’re welcome!

One Hour Whole Wheat Sourdough Bread

Ingredients::

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour ( I mill my own from hard white wheat berries)
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour (I make my own by sifting my milled whole grain flour with a sifter you can use wheat or oat flour both are good )
  • 2 t salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 t yeast
  • 1 cup sourdough starter (I use cold right out of the refrigerator)

Heat the water to 110 degrees and add yeast, let it activate for 5–10 minutes.

Add all the other ingredients into your mixer while you’re waiting. Pour your water and yeast mixture and mix.

Covering the bowl with a towel and letting it sit for 30 minutes or longer is fine too. If I have time I will leave overnight.

Then add a little flour and shape into a ball let rise while the oven is preheating.

Preheat the oven to 500 degrees with a Dutch oven in the oven ( I use my cast iron Dutch oven like the one found Here). I offset the lid on my Dutch oven while preheating otherwise it smokes really bad.

Once the oven is preheated, drop the dough ball into your hot Dutch Oven, put the lid on and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove from the Dutch Oven right away and let cool on a rack or I put mine on the grate of my stove burner.
